Manchester United were held to a goalless draw by Fulham at half-time after both sides created chances during a closely contested opening 45 minutes.
Fulham goalkeeper denied Marcus Rashford with a powerful effort from inside the area, while Manchester also saw attempts from Tielemans and Bruno Fernandes saved. Fernandes went closest to breaking the deadlock when his shot from inside the box struck the crossbar.
Fulham created opportunities of their own. Joshua King fired wide from inside the area, while Gonzalo Garcia also missed the target with a powerful effort. Sander Berge tested the Manchester goalkeeper from outside the box, but his shot was saved.
Manchester United had more of the ball in midfield for periods, but their short passing produced little threat in front of goal. A corner reached Mbeumo, whose header went wide, while Rashford was caught offside and later won a free-kick in midfield.
Fulham were awarded a free-kick for a foul on Calvin Bassey, and one Fulham player was shown a yellow card.
The match remained goalless after 15 minutes and again when half an hour had been played. The first half then ended without either side finding a breakthrough, with the second half beginning at 0-0.
