Manchester United reportedly explored a short term deal for Wilfred Ndidi during the January transfer window as they weighed up options to reinforce their midfield.
Journalist Ben Jacobs claims the Besiktas midfielder was viewed as a “secret” target, with the club examining the possibility of bringing him in until the end of the season.
Ndidi, formerly a key figure at Leicester City, has rebuilt his form in Turkey, making him an appealing low risk option at a time when United’s midfield depth and balance were under scrutiny.
However, the club’s plans shifted after Michael Carrick held talks with young star Kobbie Mainoo and successfully re integrated him into the starting setup, easing the immediate need for another midfielder.
United are still expected to reshape their engine room in the summer, with at least two new signings anticipated as Casemiro heads for the exit.
The Ndidi links highlight how the club briefly considered a stopgap solution in January before deciding to rely on internal options and defer major midfield surgery to the next transfer window.
