Manchester United could make a move for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta during the January 2027 transfer window, according to talkSPORT.
The 29-year-old France international, who is of Congolese (DRC) origin, is reportedly interested in joining the Premier League club and could become available if his contract situation at Selhurst Park remains unresolved.
Mateta’s current deal with Crystal Palace runs until the summer of 2027. However, he is not thought to be willing to extend his contract, leaving the club facing the possibility of losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Palace could therefore consider selling the striker in January rather than allowing his contract to run down. No agreement has been reached, and the player’s future is expected to become clearer over the coming weeks.
Manchester United’s need for a centre-forward has increased following the prolonged absence of Benjamin Sesko through injury. Michael Carrick is currently without an established number nine, while the club’s hierarchy reportedly accepts that the position was not strengthened sufficiently during the previous summer transfer window.
Mateta is viewed as a potential solution because Manchester United are already familiar with his characteristics. His experience of playing in the Premier League could also help him settle quickly at Old Trafford.
The forward previously played for Mayence before establishing himself at Crystal Palace. His Premier League background would offer Manchester United an option with knowledge of the competition, although there is currently no indication that a transfer has been finalised.
Jean-Philippe Mateta is valued at 30 million euros by Transfermarkt. His annual salary is listed as 2 999 892 euros, equivalent to 1 949 929 800 FCFA.
Crystal Palace are next scheduled to face Besiktas in the third round of the league phase of the Europa League. The fixture comes as the club continues to assess its options around Mateta, whose contract situation could shape decisions in the January market.
