Manchester United have opened discussions with Napoli over a potential swap deal that would see Rasmus Hojlund move to Italy, with Victor Osimhen heading to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils are reportedly willing to add €30 million to secure the Nigerian striker, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.
Since Ruben Amorim took charge last November, United have struggled in front of goal. The club sits in 14th place in the Premier League and has one of the worst scoring records in the division—managing just 33 goals in 27 matches.
Osimhen has been identified as the ideal solution to United’s attacking woes. The 26-year-old forward has been in prolific form, netting 20 goals in 27 appearances for Galatasaray.
With his return to Napoli expected at the end of the season, uncertainty looms over his future, as the Italian club may look to cash in on him.
Tensions between Osimhen and Napoli escalated after he publicly expressed his desire to play in the Premier League. This led to the club freezing him out of the squad before sending him to Turkey on loan. In his absence, Napoli brought in Romelu Lukaku, a signing made at the request of manager Antonio Conte.
While Napoli only managed a temporary loan for Osimhen, they are eager to offload him permanently while his market value remains high.
The striker has a €75 million release clause in his contract, but reports from England suggest Manchester United are looking to lower the fee by including a player in the deal.
Napoli had previously inquired about Alejandro Garnacho in January, but United are instead proposing Hojlund as part of the exchange.
The Danish striker has struggled since his €70 million move from Atalanta in 2023, scoring just seven goals this season. Amorim’s trust in him appears to be fading, with Hojlund often relegated to the bench in favor of Joshua Zirkzee, who has also been inconsistent.
A swap deal could be the perfect solution for all parties involved. United would secure a proven goal-scorer in Osimhen, fulfilling his dream of playing in the Premier League.
Napoli, on the other hand, would finally move on from Osimhen while bringing in a young striker familiar with Serie A. Meanwhile, Hojlund would get a fresh start in Italy, potentially reviving his career.
