Yaya Touré Aims Higher as Manchester City Prepare for New Season
Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré is focused on building upon last season’s impressive performances as the club gears up for the upcoming campaign. The Ivorian, known for his commanding presence in midfield, scored 20 goals in 35 appearances last term—an exceptional tally for a midfielder, though still behind Premier League top scorer Luis Suárez’s 31 goals.
Touré’s contribution goes beyond goals. With an 81% pass completion rate from 834 attempts, he set a Premier League record, demonstrating his crucial role in City’s playmaking.
Having already lifted two English league titles in three years, Touré remains driven by ambition. “We know it’s always difficult, but my aim is to do even better. Other teams have strengthened a lot, like Chelsea and Arsenal, but it’s going to be another superb season,” he said.
The former Barcelona star is especially eager to make a mark on the European stage. “We have been falling short for two or three years, and we want to do something good. But the most important thing is to enjoy it and, above all, to give pleasure,” Touré added.
Last season, City’s Champions League campaign ended in the round of 16 against Barcelona—a reminder of the challenge that awaits. As the new season approaches, Touré’s leadership and determination will be key as Manchester City strive for further success both domestically and in Europe.
