Emmanuel Adebayor has shed light on his strained relationship with his former coach, Roberto Mancini, in a recent interview with the Daily Express. The Togolese striker shared some intriguing anecdotes about his time under the Italian manager during the 2010-2011 season at Manchester City.
Adebayor recounted a particular conversation with Mancini regarding playing time after the arrival of Mario Balotelli at the club. He said, “At the start of the season, Roberto Mancini told me that he preferred to play Balotelli because my goal-scoring statistics weren’t good enough. I think he must have mistaken me for another Adebayor. So, I suggested he should Google my Premier League goal tally.”
At that time, Adebayor had scored 60 goals in the Premier League and had even finished as the second-highest scorer with Arsenal before joining Manchester City. Despite his impressive record, Mancini’s preference for Balotelli led to Adebayor being sent on loan to Real Madrid.
