Despite his team’s commendable performance, Manuel Pellegrini faces a setback as UEFA has confirmed his suspension for three matches in the Champions League. This ruling comes in response to remarks made by the Manchester City coach following their defeat against FC Barcelona (0-2) in the first leg of the round of 16.
Pellegrini’s comments cast doubt on the choice of referee, suggesting that appointing a Swedish official for such a crucial match may not have been wise. He implied that matches of this magnitude demand more experienced referees from countries with greater footballing stature in Europe.
As a result of this sanction, Pellegrini will be absent from the sidelines for the second leg in Barcelona on Wednesday, March 12th.
