Manchester City provide key update on injured Omar Marmoush ahead of Manchester derby
Manchester City have announced that Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush is set to spend time on the sidelines with a knee ligament injury.
According to the English Premier League side, Marmoush will not be available for the clash against Manchester United.
The 26-year-old limped off less than 10 minutes into Egypt’s goalless draw with Burkina Faso in Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier. He was replaced by Osama Faisal, with Egypt’s team doctor, Mohamed Abou Elela, later revealing the nature of the injury.
According to the Egyptian FA, Marmoush underwent scans in Cairo before returning to Manchester for further assessment. City released a statement on Wednesday confirming his absence.
“Initial results indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday. He will now begin his rehabilitation,” the club announced.
Marmoush has featured in all three of City’s Premier League matches this season, registering one assist. His last goal came at the end of last season, a spectacular strike against Bournemouth that earned him the Premier League Goal of the Season award.
His absence comes as a setback for Pep Guardiola’s side, who sit 13th in the league with just three points from three games. Manchester United are currently ninth with four points.
It is unclear if Marmoush will be fit in time for City’s UEFA Champions League opener against SSC Napoli.
