CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: AGÜERO HAT-TRICK SAVES MANCHESTER CITY
Manchester City staged a dramatic comeback to keep their Champions League hopes alive with a 3-2 win, thanks to a stunning hat-trick from Sergio Agüero. Trailing 2-1 late in the game, the Argentine striker took matters into his own hands, turning despair into delight at the Etihad Stadium.
After the final whistle, City boss Manuel Pellegrini heaped praise on his star striker:
“All great teams need great players. Sergio Agüero is a great player and he’s very important to us. I’ve always said he’s one of the best players in the world.”
The Chilean manager also commended his team’s fighting spirit:
“We conceded two incredible goals, but we kept working, had confidence, and stayed focused until the end. I never stopped believing.”
Despite the vital win, Pellegrini knows qualification still hangs in the balance:
“There are many possible scenarios now. We’re staying positive, but it doesn’t just depend on us. We have to seize our chance, and the way to do that is to win in Rome.”
City’s fate will be decided in their final group match in Rome, where only a win will guarantee progression — and after Agüero’s performance, belief is back in Manchester.
