Manchester City Hope to Extend Lampard Loan Until Season’s End
By BBC Sport | Premier League – Manchester City
Frank Lampard could remain at Manchester City until the end of the season, as manager Manuel Pellegrini has expressed his desire to keep the veteran midfielder beyond his initial loan spell.
Lampard, who joined City on loan from MLS side New York City FC, is currently due to return to the United States at the end of December. However, his impact at the Etihad Stadium — including three goals in just 10 Premier League appearances — has impressed both fans and staff.
“I believe Frank is a very important player for us, and I hope we won’t have any problems keeping him here,” Pellegrini told reporters. “I hope the decision will be made as soon as possible.”
The 36-year-old former Chelsea star has proven to be a valuable asset in midfield, offering experience, intelligence, and a knack for timely goals. His performances have been especially crucial during a period when City have had to manage without key players due to injury and fixture congestion.
Lampard signed with New York City FC — Manchester City’s sister club — earlier in 2014, with the understanding that he would join the MLS side for their inaugural campaign starting in early 2015. However, with City still competing on multiple fronts domestically and in Europe, Pellegrini is eager to extend Lampard’s stay to bolster squad depth and maintain momentum.
Talks between the clubs are ongoing, and while no formal decision has yet been made, all indications point to a mutual interest in prolonging the arrangement.
Should an agreement be reached, Lampard’s loan extension would keep him at Manchester City through the remainder of the 2014–15 Premier League season — a move that could significantly boost the club’s title hopes.
