Samir Nasri Still a Fan of Bielsa Despite OM’s Dip in Form
Despite Olympique de Marseille’s recent struggles, their coach Marcelo Bielsa still enjoys unwavering support from some of the club’s former stars—notably Samir Nasri.
The Manchester City midfielder, who came through the OM ranks before moving to Arsenal in 2008, expressed admiration for Bielsa’s philosophy during an interview with beIN Sport. Reflecting on OM’s dazzling start to the 2014–2015 season, Nasri praised the Argentinian tactician:
“He’s a coach I really like. I read here and there that Guardiola liked his philosophy, even identified with him a bit. If the top reference in football sees Bielsa as a model, that says it all. I love the way his teams play—constant pressing, polished and fluid football. I’m a fan.”
On a Possible Return to Marseille?
Asked whether he could return to OM one day, Nasri was more measured:
“Coming back as a player? Honestly, I don’t think so. I signed a new five-year contract with my club. You never know what might happen in football, so I won’t say never, but I don’t think it’s likely.”
Nasri, who had joined Manchester City in 2011, made it clear that while his affection for Marseille remains, a comeback is not currently in the cards. Still, his continued support of Bielsa echoes a broader respect for the coach’s unique and demanding style—despite recent tensions and results at OM.
