Kompany Draws Inspiration from 2012 as City Keep Title Hopes Alive
Manchester City kept their Premier League title hopes flickering with a 3-1 win over West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, but with just three matches remaining, they still trail leaders Liverpool by six points. Despite the gap, captain Vincent Kompany remains optimistic, citing the club’s dramatic comeback in the 2011–12 season as a source of belief.
“We did the job and achieved some nice things during this match,” said the Belgian defender after the win, which saw City return to form with a confident display. “It was important before our last four matches.”
City famously overturned an eight-point deficit in the final six games of the 2011–12 campaign, snatching the title on goal difference in one of the most dramatic finishes in Premier League history. Kompany hopes that same spirit can drive them again.
“We remember our comeback from 2012 and we use it to believe in this season,” he said. “Above all, we need to find our form from the start of the season. We were better tonight. If we continue like this, anything can happen.”
City’s next fixtures will be crucial if they are to mount another late title charge. For Kompany and his teammates, the message is clear: history can repeat itself—if they keep the belief.
