Bacary Sagna Reflects on Manchester City Move: No Regrets
Bacary Sagna has no second thoughts about his decision to leave Arsenal for Manchester City last summer, despite finding himself in a more limited role at the Etihad Stadium. The Franco-Senegalese right-back, who was a regular starter at Arsenal, has made just 16 appearances for City this season, largely due to the impressive form of Pablo Zabaleta.
Despite being a substitute for much of the campaign, Sagna remains firm in his belief that he made the right decision in moving to City. In an interview with the Manchester Evening News, the 32-year-old explained:
“No, not at all. I saw a lot of comments from fans saying I should have stayed at Arsenal, but if I had to do it again, I would do it again. When I signed, I just wanted to come and give my all, give the best of myself for the club and then, that’s life, right?”
Sagna added that he expected strong competition for his position when he joined City, and he has always been prepared to fight for his place. Acknowledging Zabaleta‘s long-standing position as a key player, Sagna expressed respect for the manager’s difficult decisions on team selection.
“For the manager, it might not be easy to choose who starts the matches but every time I play, I give my all for the team,” Sagna said. “I’m here to look ahead and improve, and I think I’ve done that.”
With his experience and professionalism, Sagna continues to contribute when called upon, focusing on the long-term goals at Manchester City.
