Man United’s last-minute bid for French-Guinean winger Malick Fofana failed

Manchester United’s hopes of adding attacking reinforcements before the close of the transfer window were dashed after a last-ditch attempt to sign Lyon winger Malick Fofana fell through.

The Red Devils made a late move for the highly rated 20-year-old but were unable to complete the deal before the deadline.

Fofana, who was born in France but has Guinean roots, has been one of the standout young players in Ligue 1 and was among several Lyon stars linked with an exit this summer as the French club grappled with financial difficulties. D

espite the speculation, he ultimately remained at Groupama Stadium.

Nottingham Forest and Chelsea were both reportedly monitoring the dynamic winger but never advanced their interest into a formal bid.

According to Foot Mercato, United did table an offer but ran out of time to finalise the transfer.

The report adds that Fofana himself was open to the prospect of a move to Old Trafford. However, no concrete signal came from his father, who also acts as his agent, that a transfer was imminent.

The collapse of the deal leaves Ruben Amorim still short of a wide option heading into a demanding schedule.

Fofana, meanwhile, will continue his development at Lyon, where he remains under contract and is expected to play a major role in the club’s Ligue 1 campaign this season.
