Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Kegan Johannes, bolstering their squad for the upcoming season with the addition of the South African U23 international. The club announced the move on Monday morning, highlighting Johannes’ long-term contract with the team.
“Mamelodi Sundowns are delighted to announce that defender Kegan Johannes has joined the Brazilians on a long-term contract,” the reigning South African champions stated. Johannes arrives from SuperSport United, where he has been a key player since November 2021.
A seasoned presence in the domestic league, Johannes previously captained the South African U23 national team and has garnered significant experience in the Premier Soccer League and domestic cup competitions.
His career includes notable stints with various South African clubs, including Ajax Cape Town, where he began his football journey.
Johannes is set to join his new teammates in Austria as they continue their pre-season preparations.
“The versatile defender will join his new teammates in Austria to participate in the remaining matches of the pre-season tour to prepare for the upcoming season,” Mamelodi Sundowns added in their announcement.
This move marks Johannes as the third new signing for Sundowns this transfer window, following the acquisitions of 22-year-old Brazilian Arthur de Oliveira Sales and 24-year-old South African Kobamelo Kodisang.
With this new addition, Mamelodi Sundowns are looking to strengthen their defensive lineup as they prepare for the challenges of the forthcoming season.
