Mamelodi Sundowns recruit talented goalkeeper Lwandiso Radebe on a permanent deal
Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their development ranks with the acquisition of talented young goalkeeper Lwandiso Radebe from the SuperSport United Academy.
Radebe, 16, is considered one of South Africa’s brightest goalkeeping prospects and has been a consistent figure in the national youth teams, progressing from the U15 and U17 levels and now preparing to join the U20 set-up.
He has been part of SuperSport’s esteemed development structure, which has remained active following the first team’s rebranding to Siwelele. Sundowns have now secured his services as part of their long-term youth development strategy.
Standing tall between the posts, Radebe is expected to feature in the Sundowns U19 squad and could be fast-tracked into the DStv Diski Challenge team. The move represents an exciting new chapter for the Westville-born goalkeeper, who impressed during South Africa’s U17 Africa Cup of Nations campaign in Morocco, where they reached the latter stages before losing to the eventual champions and hosts.
Radebe’s agency, ProSport International, announced the transfer on its official social media channels, praising the young star’s achievements.
“Congratulations to Lwandiso Radebe, captain of the South Africa U-17 National Team, on signing with Mamelodi Sundowns.
“Lwandiso’s journey has been nothing short of exceptional, from leading Amajimbos to victory in the CAF U-17 AFCON Qualifiers, to being named Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the 2025 COSAFA Region 5 Youth Games.
“A true leader, a champion, and now part of the Brazilians family. The future is golden for this young shot-stopper!”
Radebe is also expected to be named in the South Africa squad for the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar, further underlining his rapid rise in the game.
With Sundowns known for nurturing elite talent, Radebe’s arrival is seen as a major coup for the club’s future ambitions.
