Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies maintain perfect start with Tshwane derby win

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies extended their perfect start to the Hollywoodbets Super League season to eight wins from eight matches after beating University of Pretoria 3-0 in the Tshwane Derby.

The match was played at University of Limpopo’s Oscar Mpetha Stadium, where goals from Melinda Kgadiete, Refilwe Tholakele and Wendy Shongwe secured another convincing victory for the defending league leaders.

Sundowns Ladies remain top of the Super Era division with 24 points. University of Pretoria, meanwhile, dropped to third with 16 points from nine outings.

University of Western Cape moved into second place after claiming a 3-0 victory against Stellenbosch Ladies in the Cape derby. UWC are now within five points of the leaders, although they have played one match more.

Stellenbosch Ladies remain at the bottom of the table without a point after nine matches.

TS Galaxy Queens also returned to winning ways, ending a run of three matches without victory with a narrow 1-0 success away to Copperbelt Ladies.

Gontse Homba scored the only goal of the match as the Rockets climbed one place to fourth on 16 points. Copperbelt Ladies fell to fifth with 15 points, with both sides having played nine matches.

In the Super Rise stream, JVW FC produced a 3-0 victory over City Lads in a meeting between the top and bottom sides.

Regina Mogolola opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Gabriela Moodaly-Salgado added two more goals. The result put the Blue Diamonds at the top of the group on 21 points from nine games.

Moodaly-Salgado, a Banyana Banyana international, is now joint second in the division’s scoring charts with six goals.

City Lads remain bottom of the table with three points from nine matches.

University of Fort Hare moved above University of Johannesburg after winning their match 2-1. Kesha Hendricks and captain Amanda November were on target for Fort Hare.

The result lifted University of Fort Hare into second place on 16 points, while UJ dropped to third with 14 points after nine matches.
