Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies have made a strong statement ahead of the 2026 season, securing the signings of Wendy Shongwe from University of Pretoria (Tuks) Ladies and Gugu Dhlamini from University of Johannesburg Ladies.
The reigning six-time Super League champions are preparing for a busy campaign across domestic, regional, and continental competitions, and the addition of the two forwards underscores their intent to maintain dominance while challenging for continental honours.
For Shongwe, the move to Chloorkop represents a career milestone. The forward expressed excitement at joining a club she has long admired, highlighting the professional environment and winning culture that align with her ambitions.
“It feels extremely exciting to officially join the Masandawana family. From the moment the opportunity came up, I saw it as a massive chance to grow and develop as a player,” Shongwe said.
She believes her pace, intensity, and team-first mentality will strengthen Sundowns’ attacking options, while she looks forward to learning from established leaders like Andile Dlamini, Noxolo Cesane, Bambanani Mbane, and Kholosa Biyana.
Her goals for the season include making an immediate impact, contributing to silverware, performing well in the CAF Women’s Champions League, and staying in contention for national team selection.
Gugu Dhlamini described joining Sundowns Ladies as a dream come true. She cited the club’s long-term vision for women’s football, competitive drive, and player development focus as decisive factors in her decision.

Dhlamini aims to contribute on the field, score goals, help defend the league title, and ultimately compete for and win the CAF Women’s Champions League.
