Thabo Cele on the radar of Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly joined the race to sign Thabo Cele following his departure from Kaizer Chiefs.

Cele is currently a free agent after mutually agreeing to terminate his contract with Amakhosi, bringing an end to his time with the Soweto giants.

The former Bafana Bafana midfielder endured a difficult start to the new campaign after being frozen out of the Kaizer Chiefs first team by head coach Fernando da Cruz, who made it clear that the player was not part of his plans.

With his future at the club uncertain, Cele ultimately reached an agreement with the Chiefs management to end his contract and is now free to negotiate with other clubs.

His availability has reportedly attracted interest from Mamelodi Sundowns, who are believed to be monitoring the situation closely. KwaZulu-Natal outfit AmaZulu are also said to be interested in securing the midfielder’s services.

Cele’s quality is not in doubt, having established himself as one of Kaizer Chiefs’ standout performers last season. His technical ability, composure on the ball and creativity in midfield made him an important figure for the Soweto club.

The midfielder’s departure is understood to have followed a disagreement with the club’s management, eventually leading to the decision to part ways.

Now, with no transfer fee required to secure his services, Cele could prove to be an attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their midfield.

Sundowns could offer the midfielder an opportunity to remain at one of the country’s biggest clubs, while a move to AmaZulu would see him continue his career in KwaZulu-Natal.

Although no deal has been confirmed yet, Cele’s next destination is expected to become clearer in the coming weeks, with Sundowns and AmaZulu emerging as potential destinations for the talented midfielder.
