Mamelodi Sundowns have comfortably booked their place in the CAF Champions League group stage following a commanding 4-0 victory over Mbabane Swallows. This win, on the back of their 4-0 triumph in the first leg, sealed an 8-0 aggregate score, highlighting their dominance in the tie.

Sundowns, one of Africa’s most formidable football clubs, approached the second leg with the advantage and never looked back.

The match, played at their home venue, saw head coach Manqoba Mngqithi implement a significant squad rotation.

Despite the changes, the South African champions maintained their intensity and professionalism throughout the game.

Mngqithi’s decision to shuffle his squad brought fresh faces into the starting XI, including the much-anticipated return of Erwin Saavedra, who had been sidelined for 20 months due to injury.

Additionally, Thembinkosi Lorch made his first start of the season, while other notable inclusions were Rushine De Reuck, Malibongwe Khoza, Zuko Mdunyelwa, Divine Lunga, and Kobamelo Kodisang.

The first half saw Sundowns dominate possession but struggle to create clear scoring opportunities.

It wasn’t until the 35th minute that the breakthrough came.

Divine Lunga delivered a well-placed cross into the box, finding Kodisang at the far post, who calmly slotted the ball home to give Sundowns a 1-0 lead.

The second half saw Sundowns quickly shift gears.

Just minutes into the half, Malibongwe Khoza doubled the lead with a powerful header following a precise free-kick delivery from Thembinkosi Lorch, who had a standout performance throughout the match.

Lorch, who had been orchestrating the attack with composure and creativity, finally got on the scoresheet himself in the 62nd minute, marking his first goal of the season.

His contribution did not stop there; just three minutes later, Sphelele Mkhulise added a fourth goal, rounding off an impressive attacking display by the Brazilians.

The 4-0 victory capped a perfect performance over the two legs for Mamelodi Sundowns, who showed their depth and strength with a mix of established stars and returning players.

With an aggregate score of 8-0, Sundowns made a bold statement of intent as they move forward in their quest for continental glory.

For Mbabane Swallows, the match represented a steep learning curve, as they were thoroughly outclassed by the South African giants.

Despite their best efforts, they could not match the quality or experience of a Sundowns side that has consistently competed at the highest level in African football.

With their place in the CAF Champions League group stage now secure, Mamelodi Sundowns will be eager to continue their winning momentum as they look to add another continental title to their trophy cabinet.
