Mamelodi Sundowns complete African treble in Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns have completed a historic run of three successive African victories in the Africa-Asia-Pacific Cup after beating Al Ahli 2-1 in the 2026 final.

The South African club followed Al Ahly’s success in 2024, when the Egyptian side defeated Al Ain FC 3-0, and Pyramids FC’s triumph in 2025, secured with a 3-1 victory away to Al Ahli.

The sequence means African clubs have won every edition of the competition since its launch. Across three finals, representatives from the continent have claimed three titles, underlining their growing authority in intercontinental football.

The achievement marks a significant shift in the competition’s balance and establishes African clubs as the leading force in the tournament.
