Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has delivered a firm warning to Raja Club Athletic ahead of their upcoming CAF Champions League clash. Speaking after his team’s 1-1 draw against AS FAR in Morocco, Mngqithi expressed confidence in his side’s ability to secure victories on home soil as they prepare for the next group-stage encounter.
Iqraam Rayners scored for Sundowns in their draw with AS FAR, leaving the South African champions second in Group B with two points.
AS FAR currently lead the group with four points, while Sundowns look to capitalize on their upcoming fixtures.
Mngqithi stressed the importance of turning their home ground, Loftus Versfeld Stadium, into a fortress. “At home, it is always difficult for opponents to win.
We now need to win games, and I think we are well placed to do that,” he stated confidently.
A Favorable Draw Between Rivals
Mngqithi acknowledged that the draw between Raja AC and AS Maniema Union worked in Sundowns’ favor but admitted they had hoped for a better result against AS FAR.
Despite this, he praised his players’ efforts in the match, highlighting their performance as a solid foundation for future success.
“The boys played well, and I’m pleased with their performance. If we keep this momentum, I believe we can secure a win against AS FAR when they visit us in January,” Mngqithi remarked.
Road Ahead for Sundowns
Before the highly anticipated rematch with AS FAR, Sundowns are set to travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo to face AS Maniema Union.
Mngqithi emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and consistency as the team looks to strengthen its position in the group standings.
Sundowns’ upcoming clash against Raja AC will be a critical test of their resolve and home advantage, with the South African side determined to assert dominance in the CAF Champions League campaign.
