Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso is hoping to repay the club’s faith following their qualification to the semifinals of the CAF Champions League.
The South African giants triumphed over Tunisian side Esperance to secure a place in the last four of the prestigious competition.
Sundowns defeated Esperance 1-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinals before sharing the spoils in the return clash following a 0-0 draw.
Having booked a slot in the semifinals, Sundowns are expected to lock horns with giants Al Ahly in a crunch clash.
Sundowns will play host to Al Ahly on April 19 before travelling for the reverse fixture at the Cairo International Stadium.
With Al Ahly awaiting in the semi-final, Cardoso praised Sundowns’ tactical discipline and reflected on his evolving journey:
“Last year, we achieved good results against Espérance. This year, I hope to repeat that success with Sundowns, who have shown faith in me and my staff.”
For Esperance, the dream of clinching a fifth Champions League title has once again slipped away. The Tunisian side has now failed to lift the trophy for the sixth consecutive year, with their last triumph dating back to 2019.
