Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has hailed his outfit fighting spirit following their 2-0 victory against Sekhukhune United in the South African Premiership.
The Brazilian has now moved three points clear at the top of the standings, with Orlando Pirates occupying the second spot.
Cardoso has come under pressure, with a chunk of the Sundowns fans calling for his sacking amid the club’s inconsistent results.
But the win at Pete Mokaba Stadium has brought some relief for the under fire Portuguese coach.
“This is the spirit the team had today. We felt the spirit inside the pitch, we felt the spirit in the locker room, we felt it in the stands, and this is really the spirit of Ubuntu that we have in our shirts,” Cardoso said after the game.
“Today was a game of a lot of creativity. We knew that the game probably would finish in the end, but we told the boys today, the starters would be as important as the finishers in order to put intensity, rhythm to make the Sekhukhune players tired to force them to really run in the end without energy and capacity to process everything we could make.
“Fantastic pressure we had to prepare this match. It was beautiful, we brought almost all team. They understood that they had to be committed and congratulations. Congratulations to the players, congratulations to everybody that believes.
“We need all the fans to believe on us. To really believe and lift the spirit of the team and we dedicate the victory to the ones that are always with us.”
