Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al-Ahli to lift FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns added another trophy to their collection on Saturday by defeating Al-Ahli 2-1 in the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

The African champions overcame the Asian champions at Loftus Versfeld Stadium, with Nuno Santos scoring both goals for the South African side.

Miguel Cardoso and his players delivered a memorable occasion for a packed home crowd, with supporters filling Loftus Versfeld and celebrating throughout the afternoon.

Sundowns lifted the trophy in front of their fans after the final whistle before joining them in the celebrations.

Cardoso paid tribute to the supporters, his players and the club’s leadership after the victory.

“Thank you very much Mamelodi Sundowns, this one is for this beautiful people here, all of them, for our chairman, the players, Mr Flemming, beautiful moment,” he said.

“Let’s embrace also because it’s a beautiful moment today, it’s a big, big one this one that will stay in the history forever.”

The victory gives Sundowns another piece of silverware and extends a notable period for the club, who have now been crowned champions of the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup.

Their next assignment will be in the Challengers Cup. Sundowns’ opponents for that competition have not yet been decided.
