Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al Ahli to advance in FIFA Intercontinental Cup

Mamelodi Sundowns strengthened their position in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026 with a 2-1 victory over Al Ahli on Saturday afternoon.

The African champions made the ideal start against the Asian representatives when Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos opened the scoring in the 17th minute. His goal gave Sundowns a narrow advantage at half-time.

Al Ahli pushed for an equaliser after the break, but Mamelodi Sundowns dealt with the pressure and prevented their opponents from turning their attacks into a goal.

Sundowns then increased their lead in the 80th minute, with Nuno Santos completing his second goal of the match.

Al Ahli managed to reduce the deficit, but could not find a further equaliser. The South African side held on to win 2-1 and continue their run in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup 2026.
