Former Zamalek president Mamdouh Abbas has reiterated his unshaken commitment to the club during a moment of change marked by the retirement of long-serving stars Shikabala and Mohamed Abdel Shafy.
Speaking in a televised interview Thursday night, Abbas assured fans that his dedication hasn’t wavered, even though he no longer calls the shots at the White Castle.
“I am committed to my words and promises, but I am not the decision-maker at the moment. Zamalek has contracted John Edward as sporting director, and he is responsible for the football file,” he said.
Shikabala and Abdel Shafy’s exit from the pitch signals the end of an era. The former captain, Shikabala, is weighing a future in youth development, and Abbas has backed his vision.
“Shikabala is considering opening a football academy, and I support whatever decision he makes. I know this is his dream. Mohamed Abdel-Shafy may soon assume a position within the club.”
Abbas also revealed plans for a farewell match, saying, “We are currently preparing a farewell match worthy of Shikabala and Abdel Shafy as they are two of the greatest icons in Zamalek’s history and should be honored,”
