Mamady Mara: Guinean Teenager Linked with Move from Horoya AC to SV Ried

Guinean left-back Mamady Mara of Horoya AC is being linked with a move to Austrian side SV Ried, with the 18-year-old defender attracting interest after breaking into senior football in Conakry.

Mara, born in Kountiah on 8 March 2008, stepped up from Horoya AC’s U19s to the first team in July 2023 and has already featured in the CAF Champions League. He has made three appearances in the competition, totalling just over 200 minutes, offering continental experience at a young age that is understood to have drawn attention from Europe.

SV Ried, who compete in Austria’s top flight, are exploring options at left-back and see the Guinea youth as a potential addition to strengthen their defensive depth. While no agreement has been reached, the interest signals growing overseas monitoring of Horoya’s emerging talent.

Mara is a naturally left‐footed defender whose primary position is at left-back, fitting a profile often sought by European clubs recruiting from African leagues. His rapid progression from the club’s youth ranks to regular involvement in major continental fixtures has provided early exposure to higher-intensity football.

Horoya AC moved Mara into the senior setup ahead of the 2023/24 campaign and he has remained tied to the Guinean club since that promotion. With no public indication of a fixed contract end date, Horoya would be in a position to negotiate terms should SV Ried choose to formalise their interest.
