Senegal international defender Mamadou Sarr is set to join Spanish side Real Sociedad on loan from Chelsea until the end of the season.

L’Équipe reports that the 20-year-old will complete the move before the summer transfer window closes, with a medical scheduled at the La Liga club on Thursday morning.

Sarr is moving to Spain in search of regular first-team football after finding opportunities limited since joining Chelsea.

Sarr gets another chance away from Chelsea

The move will be Sarr’s second loan spell since arriving at Stamford Bridge.

The centre-back was previously sent back to Strasbourg on loan after Chelsea signed him permanently from the French club.

Sarr made 46 appearances during his time with Strasbourg and will hope to enjoy a similarly productive spell in San Sebastián.

The Senegalese defender, who was born in Martigues and developed through the Lyon academy, will now look to establish himself in Spanish football and strengthen his claims for regular international involvement.

No option to buy in deal

Sarr is expected to undergo his medical with Real Sociedad before the loan is formally completed.

The agreement does not include an option for the Spanish club to buy the defender permanently, meaning he is expected to return to Chelsea when the temporary spell ends.

For Sarr, the immediate objective will be to secure consistent playing time in La Liga and continue his development away from the competition for places at Stamford Bridge.
