Malian goalkeeper Mamadou Samassa is set to begin a new chapter in his career after signing a two-year contract with Turkish Süper Lig club Sivasspor. The 29-year-old, whose contract with Troyes had come to an end, finalized the deal at the Istanbul office of club chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz, with the contract taking effect from the 2019–2020 season, according to a post on Sivasspor’s official Twitter account.
Trained at Guingamp in France, Samassa will be experiencing his first professional stint outside of his home country. The move comes as the goalkeeper seeks new challenges and opportunities to further his career in a competitive league like Turkey’s top division.
Samassa was also selected by Malian coach Mohamed Magassouba for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, but he ultimately declined the invitation to focus on his club career. His decision highlights the importance of establishing himself at Sivasspor as he embarks on this new chapter abroad.
With his experience in French football and international recognition, Samassa is expected to play a key role for Sivasspor, providing stability and leadership in goal as the club aims to compete in the Süper Lig. His signing reflects Sivasspor’s strategy of strengthening their squad with experienced players capable of making an immediate impact.
This move marks an important step for Samassa, combining the opportunity to compete at a high level in Turkey with the chance to continue developing his skills in a new footballing environment. His career trajectory now takes him from France to Turkey, where he will look to cement his reputation as a reliable and accomplished goalkeeper.
