Mamadou Fofana: Mauritanian-French midfielder joins AS Nancy from FC Aarau on long-term deal
AS Nancy have signed Mauritanian-French midfielder Mamadou Fofana from Swiss side FC Aarau, with the 25-year-old agreeing a contract until June 2029. The central midfielder joins the Ligue 2 club at the age of 25, adding fresh competition in the middle of the pitch at Stade Marcel-Picot.
Fofana, who prefers to operate in central midfield and plays predominantly with his right foot, arrives in France after a spell in the Swiss Challenge League. He was on the books of Aarau going into the 2026-27 campaign, although he had yet to feature in a league match this season prior to completing his move.
Born in Le Havre and standing at 1.77m, Fofana holds both Mauritanian and French nationality. His move to Nancy represents a return to French football and a chance to establish himself in a league that offers regular visibility and a higher competitive level than the Swiss second tier. His current market value is listed at around €300,000, underlining Nancy’s decision to secure him on a multi-year agreement.
Fofana will wear the number 17 shirt at AS Nancy and is now tied to the club until the summer of 2029, completing a long-term transfer from FC Aarau.
