Mamadou Camara: Montpellier eye move for Mali-France forward from Laval
Mamadou Camara, the Mali-France centre-forward currently at Stade Lavallois, is being linked with a move to Montpellier as the Ligue 2 club look to reinforce their attack. The 25-year-old, who wears the No 9 shirt for Laval, is understood to be on Montpellier’s shortlist as they assess options at centre-forward ahead of the new campaign.
Camara is under contract at Laval until 30 June 2027, a situation that would require Montpellier to negotiate a fee rather than explore a free transfer. His current market valuation stands at around €1.2 million, reflecting his status as an established attacker at Ligue 2 level.
Born in Aubervilliers and standing at 1.89m, Camara has built his reputation as a central striker, operating predominantly through the middle and favouring his right foot. He joined Laval from Quevilly Rouen in August 2024 and has since become a regular presence in the second tier.
Across his Ligue 2 career, Camara has made 127 appearances, scoring 23 goals and providing 13 assists, with his minutes per goal ratio highlighting consistent involvement over several seasons. He has also shown an eye for goal in domestic cup competition, registering three goals in the Coupe de France.
Camara has had a brief taste of Ligue 1 football with three appearances in the top division earlier in his career, experience which may appeal to Montpellier as they weigh up a move. For now, Laval retain the forward on a long-term deal, leaving the onus on Montpellier to decide whether to firm up their interest with an offer.
