Florent Malouda has publicly recommended that Chelsea make a move for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window, pointing to the forward’s prolific form as the answer to the club’s long-standing goalscoring struggles.
The former Blues winger, who made over 200 appearances for the London side, believes Osimhen’s qualities are exactly what Chelsea need to reignite their attacking threat.
Currently on loan at Galatasaray, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a sensational campaign, netting 33 goals across all competitions—a return that has made him one of the most talked-about forwards in European football.
“Chelsea need a striker who can guarantee 20 goals a season,” Malouda told Racing Tipster. “Victor Osimhen is that type of player. He has the experience, the consistency, and the mentality to make the difference.”
Osimhen, who first rose to prominence at Lille before starring for Napoli, has continued his rise in Turkey, delivering match-winning performances and showing his ability to adapt quickly to new leagues.
Now at the peak of his career, the Nigerian international has become a hot commodity, attracting interest from several top European clubs. Malouda, however, insists Stamford Bridge would be an ideal destination.
Chelsea have struggled to find a reliable centre-forward in recent seasons, with several big-money signings failing to deliver consistent returns. For Malouda, Osimhen’s combination of physicality, movement, and finishing ability could offer a long-awaited solution to that problem.
“Osimhen brings more than just goals,” Malouda added. “He brings presence, confidence, and the ability to lead the line. Chelsea haven’t had that kind of forward in a long time.”
While the sporting rationale appears straightforward, Malouda acknowledged that securing the deal could be a complex financial undertaking.
Osimhen’s market value has skyrocketed, and any negotiations would involve a substantial transfer fee and high salary demands.
“The challenge for Chelsea will be financial,” said Malouda. “What will the fee be? What kind of wages will he command? These are the questions the club will have to address, but for a player of his calibre, it’s worth the effort.”
Chelsea’s transfer policy in recent years has seen them invest heavily in youth, but the lack of an experienced, proven goalscorer has been a consistent gap in their squad. Malouda’s endorsement of Osimhen signals a belief that Chelsea must now prioritise quality over potential in key areas of the pitch.
Osimhen’s name continues to circulate among Europe’s elite ahead of the transfer window, and while no official bid has been made, Malouda’s comments are likely to spark further speculation about Chelsea’s interest.
With the Nigerian forward in red-hot form and Chelsea eager to return to the upper echelons of English and European football, the potential move may prove to be one of the summer’s most significant storylines.
Whether the Blues will take their former player’s advice remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Victor Osimhen’s performances are impossible to ignore.
