Samuel Eto’o’s 22-year Mallorca record broken by Vedat Muriqi
A major piece of Mallorca history has come to an end after Vedat Muriqi surpassed Samuel Eto’o to become the club’s highest scorer in La Liga.
The milestone was reached during the 31st matchday, where Muriqi scored twice against Rayo Vallecano, taking his league tally for Mallorca to 55 goals.
That figure moves him beyond Eto’o’s long-standing record, which had stood untouched for 22 years.
Eto’o’s spell at Mallorca remains one of the most significant chapters of his early career. Initially arriving on loan from Real Madrid in 2000, the Cameroon international quickly made an impact with his pace, power and clinical finishing, earning a permanent move shortly afterwards.
During his four seasons with the club, Eto’o registered 64 goals in all competitions, including 54 in La Liga. His performances helped establish him as one of the most feared forwards in Spain before he went on to achieve global success with FC Barcelona and Inter Milan.
Despite Eto’o’s legacy remaining firmly embedded in Mallorca’s history, Muriqi’s recent form has now rewritten the record books.
The forward has become a key figure for the club in recent seasons, consistently leading the line and delivering crucial goals.
His latest brace not only secured another important contribution in the current campaign but also confirmed his place at the top of Mallorca’s all-time La Liga scoring chart.
The achievement marks a significant moment for both player and club, closing a record chapter in Mallorca’s history while opening a new one defined by Muriqi’s consistency in front of goal.
As the season continues, attention will now turn to how far the striker can extend his new record, with supporters watching closely as he continues to add to his tally.
