Malick Fofana linked with RB Leipzig move from Lyon

Malick Fofana, the Belgian-Guinean winger at Lyon, has been linked with a move to Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

The 21-year-old left winger has started the 2026-27 campaign with two goals in six appearances, scoring once in Ligue 1 and once in Champions League qualifying.

Fofana joined Lyon from Belgian club KAA Gent in January 2024 in a deal worth €19.5m. He had previously come through Gent’s youth system and made his senior move to Lyon at the age of 18.

The player’s current market value is listed at €30m, while his contract with Lyon runs until 30 June 2028. That deal means Lyon are under no immediate pressure to allow him to leave, with the club retaining his registration for the next two seasons.

Fofana has made four appearances in Champions League qualifying this term, starting three matches, and has featured twice in Ligue 1. His involvement in the opening weeks of the campaign comes as interest from Leipzig is reported ahead of the transfer deadline.

There is no indication that a transfer has been agreed, and the reported link remains at the rumour stage. Fofana therefore remains a Lyon player, with the French club holding him under contract until June 2028.
