Malick Evouna: Gabonese Striker Chooses Al Ahly

Gabon’s Malick Evouna Chooses Al Ahly Over Zamalek in High-Profile Transfer Decision

Gabonese striker Malick Evouna has confirmed his decision to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly, ending speculation over his future after a standout season with Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca.

The 22-year-old, who finished as the top scorer in the Moroccan Botola Pro League with 16 goals, was one of the most sought-after players in North African football this summer. Both Al Ahly and their Cairo rivals Zamalek had been locked in a battle to sign the Wydad striker, but Evouna has now publicly declared his intention to join the Red Devils.

“I chose Al Ahly and I informed the WAC management. I chose the Red Devils because of their history and the number of trophies they’ve won,” Evouna told Helsport in an interview.

Despite Wydad’s desire to retain their star forward, the player made it clear that the time had come for a new challenge. “I know that the president is doing everything to keep me, and that goes straight to my heart,” Evouna said in comments to Radiomars. “But I have thought long and hard with my family and my agents, and it is time for me to leave.”

While Al Ahly have yet to officially announce the signing, Evouna’s remarks strongly indicate that a deal is close. The transfer, if confirmed, would be one of the most notable in African club football this year.

Evouna’s arrival is expected to bolster Al Ahly’s attacking options as the Cairo-based club looks to reclaim dominance both domestically and on the continental stage. Known for his physical strength, speed, and clinical finishing, the Gabon international will be a significant addition to an already formidable squad.

Evouna joined Wydad Casablanca in 2013 and quickly became a fan favourite with his consistent goal-scoring and dynamic presence in the final third. His performances also earned him regular call-ups to the Gabon national team, where he partners with Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Should the move go through, Evouna will be stepping onto one of the biggest stages in African football — a move he believes is essential for the next phase of his career.
