Malian midfielder Seydou Dembélé delivered an outstanding performance in his side’s 2-1 victory against Angola at the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations, earning him the Man of the Match award.

His display in midfield proved decisive as the Aiglonnets kicked off their campaign with a crucial win.

A playmaker in control

Dembélé’s influence was evident from the opening minutes of the match. In the 13th minute, he provided a perfectly weighted assist for Ndjicoura Bomba, who made no mistake in finding the net and giving Mali the lead.

His ability to dictate the tempo and find space between the lines kept Angola under pressure throughout the first half.

But it was not just his attacking contribution that stood out.

The JMG Academy talent was equally impressive in ball recovery and distribution, ensuring Mali maintained control in midfield.

His sharp decision-making and precise passing allowed the Aiglonnets to dominate possession and limit Angola’s opportunities.

A performance worthy of recognition

Although Angola managed to equalize just before halftime after a VAR review upheld Jayden Puna’s goal, Mali remained composed.

Dembélé continued to orchestrate the play, leading Mali’s charge in the second half.

In the 74th minute, substitute Soungalo Coulibaly capitalized on a corner to restore Mali’s advantage, sealing the 2-1 victory.

Dembélé’s leadership in midfield played a key role in keeping Angola at bay and ensuring Mali secured all three points.

A key player for the tournament

With this performance, Seydou Dembélé has emerged as a crucial figure in Mali’s squad.

His ability to control the game, create chances, and disrupt opposition play makes him an invaluable asset as the Aiglonnets aim for a deep run in the tournament.

Mali now turns its focus to the next group-stage match, where Dembélé will once again be expected to lead the charge.

If he maintains this level, he could be a driving force in Mali’s quest for U17 AFCON glory.
