Malian midfielder Diadié Samassekou joins Houston Dynamo on long-term deal

Houston Dynamo have secured the signing of Malian international Diadié Samassekou on a contract running until 2026, with an option to extend his stay through to 2028.

The midfielder arrives in Major League Soccer as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

The 29-year-old Bamako-born player, who has spent much of his career in Europe, embarks on a new chapter in the United States after a spell in Germany where opportunities had become limited.

Known for his strength, tactical awareness, and ability to dictate play from deep in midfield, Samassekou is expected to add depth and experience to Houston’s squad as they continue to build a competitive side in MLS.

Samassekou’s career began at AS Real Bamako before he moved to Europe, signing with Austrian outfit FC Liefering, where he quickly caught the attention of RB Salzburg.

His performances in Austria earned him a move to Hoffenheim in 2019, marking the start of his Bundesliga journey.

While with the German club, he made 87 appearances, showcasing his versatility and reliability in midfield.

Seeking consistent playing time, Samassekou embarked on loan spells with Olympiakos in Greece and Cádiz CF in Spain, gaining further experience in two of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

His international career has been equally notable; since debuting for Mali, he has earned 42 caps and scored one goal, establishing himself as a key figure for the Eagles over the years.
