Malian international Adama Traoré secures loan move to Saudi side Al-Ula
Adama Malouda Traoré has completed a loan switch to Al-Ula FC, joining the Saudi second division club just days before the close of the transfer window.
The Malian international, who only recently signed with Turkish outfit Gençlerbirliği, will now continue his career in the Middle East after the two clubs agreed a deal reported to be worth around €1.5 million.
The move was confirmed on Friday, 12 September 2025, by Al-Ula, who have been among the most active sides in the division during this window.
A rapid change of direction
For Traoré, the switch represents another sudden twist in a career defined by constant movement. His stay in Türkiye proved brief, lasting only a matter of weeks before the Saudi club stepped in to secure his services.
Al-Ula’s management, eager to strengthen their squad with proven international experience, identified the 28-year-old winger as a priority target to bolster their promotion ambitions.
Despite his short spell in Ankara, Traoré had been expected to play a central role at Gençlerbirliği. However, the opportunity presented by Al-Ula — both for the player and for the Turkish club — proved too compelling to ignore.
The deal underlines the aggressive approach Saudi clubs continue to adopt in reshaping their rosters, even beyond the top flight.
A key piece in Al-Ula’s promotion drive
Al-Ula, determined to secure elevation to the Saudi Pro League, have rebuilt much of their squad during the summer, and Traoré’s arrival is seen as another significant step towards that objective.
His pace, direct dribbling, and ability to operate across the attacking line give head coach and supporters alike reason for optimism.
The club highlighted his versatility in their official announcement, describing him as a player capable of unlocking defences and adding much-needed dynamism to the attack.
Traoré himself has not yet spoken publicly about the move, but insiders at Al-Ula suggest the Mali international is excited about the challenge and motivated by the prospect of playing a pivotal role in the team’s rise.
Experience across borders
Traoré’s career has long been marked by adaptability. Having already experienced professional football across several countries, he is no stranger to rapid changes in environment.
His exposure to multiple leagues has allowed him to develop a style that blends technical sharpness with physical resilience, qualities that Al-Ula hope will make an immediate impact in Saudi Arabia’s demanding second tier.
For Mali’s national team, Traoré remains a familiar presence, offering depth and versatility whenever called upon.
His move to Saudi Arabia, while unconventional compared with more traditional European paths, ensures that he will continue competing at a high level in an environment that is becoming increasingly competitive with each passing year.
Saudi market continues to expand
The signing also underscores the broader trend of Saudi clubs investing heavily in both domestic and international players.
While the headlines are often dominated by top-flight transfers, Al-Ula’s capture of Traoré shows that ambition is not limited to the Pro League alone.
Promotion hopefuls are equally determined to strengthen their squads, creating a market that extends throughout the football pyramid.
For Traoré, the loan to Al-Ula offers yet another chapter in a career that refuses to stand still. With promotion on the line and expectations high, the Malian winger will now aim to convert his experience into decisive performances, hoping to guide his new club to the top tier of Saudi football.
