Malian forward Moussa Sylla is closing in on a high-profile move to Major League Soccer side New York City FC, with medical examinations scheduled to take place in the United States later this week.
The France-born striker, who currently plays for Schalke 04, appears poised to complete the next chapter of his career away from German football.
Sylla’s exit from Schalke is now taking concrete form, with the club’s top scorer expected to undergo routine medical tests that would pave the way for an official announcement.
If completed, the transfer would mark a significant move for the Malian international, who has been one of the standout performers for the Royal Blues.
From a financial standpoint, the deal offers timely relief for Schalke. The Bundesliga 2 side is set to receive up to €7 million, including performance-related bonuses, a welcome boost amid ongoing financial challenges.
However, the full amount will not remain in Gelsenkirchen, as Sylla’s former club, Pau FC, is entitled to 15 percent of the fixed transfer fee due to a clause agreed in the summer of 2024.
While the departure represents a notable sporting loss for Schalke, club officials are expected to prioritise the financial stability the transfer brings. Confirmation of the move is anticipated once Sylla successfully completes his medicals in the USA, officially sealing his switch to New York City FC.
