Mali star Yves Bissouma reportedly targeted by Ajax in surprise transfer move

Ajax are reportedly considering a move for Mali international Yves Bissouma as they continue to assess the free agent market, according to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

The 30-year-old midfielder is currently without a club after leaving Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Ajax sporting adviser Jordi Cruyff said to be considering a surprise move for the experienced Malian.

Ajax face competition for Bissouma

Ajax are understood to be competing with clubs from Europe’s top five leagues for Bissouma’s signature, although it remains uncertain whether the Amsterdam club will be able to complete a deal.

The Mali international had already been linked with Ajax in August, before the Dutch giants eventually signed Sofyan Amrabat.

Bissouma’s availability as a free agent could now reopen the possibility of a move to the Eredivisie, with Ajax continuing to explore options to strengthen their midfield.

Mali international brings Premier League experience

Bissouma joined Tottenham from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2022 and went on to make 111 appearances for the north London club.

However, his involvement was limited last season, with the midfielder making only 11 Premier League appearances after struggling with injury.

A move to Ajax would give the Mali international an opportunity to begin a new chapter in his career, although the report indicates that the chances of the transfer being completed remain unclear.
