Yves Bissouma set to join Ajax

Ajax are on the verge of completing a major free-agent signing after reaching a full verbal agreement with experienced Malian midfielder Yves Bissouma.

The Dutch giants have agreed terms with the 29-year-old midfielder, who is currently undergoing his medical examinations in Amsterdam.

Bissouma became a free agent after parting ways with Tottenham Hotspur in June, bringing an end to his spell in the Premier League.

The midfielder is now expected to complete his move to Ajax once his medical is successfully concluded, with the contract already agreed between the two parties.

The deal will run until June 2027 and includes an option to extend the agreement further, subject to performance-related triggers.

Ajax see Bissouma’s arrival as an important addition to their midfield, particularly because of his experience at the highest level of English football.

The Malian is renowned for his defensive qualities, ball-winning ability, physical strength and tenacity in midfield. His ability to break up opposition attacks and recover possession is expected to add greater balance and stability to the Ajax midfield.

Bissouma began his European career with French side Lille before making his name at Brighton and Hove Albion, where his performances earned him a move to Tottenham in 2022.

During his time in the Premier League, he established himself as a midfielder capable of operating effectively in demanding matches, gaining extensive experience against some of Europe’s top players.

His arrival could also provide Ajax with valuable leadership and experience as the club seeks to compete domestically and on the European stage.

For Bissouma, the move represents a fresh chapter in his career after his departure from Tottenham. A return to regular football in the Netherlands could offer the midfielder the opportunity to rediscover his best form and play a central role in Ajax’s ambitions.
