Mali international Aliou Dieng nears Al Ahly exit

Mali international Aliou Dieng is edging closer to a move from Al Ahly to Qatari side Al Wakrah SC, with negotiations between the two clubs advancing ahead of the January 2026 transfer window.

Al Wakrah representatives recently met the midfielder and outlined a contract proposal believed to include an annual salary of $3 million and a $500,000 signing bonus.

The discussions were described as positive, and Dieng has indicated his willingness to join the Qatari club, awaiting a formal agreement between the two teams.

The Qatari outfit has reportedly submitted a $500,000 bid to buy out the remaining months of Dieng’s current deal, which expires in the summer of 2026.

Al Ahly must now assess the offer as pressure grows around the player’s contract situation.

Tension between Dieng and the Egyptian club has escalated in recent months, following failed attempts to secure a contract renewal.

Despite multiple approaches from Al Ahly’s board, the midfielder has shown no intention of extending his stay in Cairo.

Dieng, who has been a key figure in Al Ahly’s midfield since joining the club in 2019, appears ready for a fresh challenge.

His determination to continue his career in the Gulf region was strengthened during a successful loan spell last season with Saudi Arabian side Al Kholood, where he made 32 appearances and scored three goals.

That stint increased interest from across the region, with Al Duhail, Al Arabi, Al Shamal and Neom SC also monitoring his situation.

However, Al Wakrah have moved fastest to secure his signature, placing them in pole position as the transfer window approaches.

Should the deal be finalised, Al Ahly would face the departure of a midfielder long regarded as a central pillar in maintaining the team’s structure and consistency.

Dieng’s departure would not only leave a significant gap in the squad but also bring an end to a period of sustained contribution marked by domestic and continental success.

With both parties pushing towards a resolution, an official announcement could follow in the coming weeks.

For Al Wakrah, securing Dieng’s services would represent a major reinforcement as they continue to strengthen their ambitions.

For Al Ahly, it signals the likely conclusion of a valued chapter in midfield leadership that may now be entering its final days.
