Mali has advanced to the second round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers after a dominant performance against Gabon.

The Eagles Ladies secured their place in the next stage with a resounding 4-0 victory in the return leg on Tuesday, completing a comprehensive 9-0 aggregate win over the two matches.

Having already built a commanding lead in the first leg, Mali showed no signs of slowing down in the return fixture.

The team delivered a ruthless first-half display, netting three goals to leave their opponents with an insurmountable challenge.

They added a fourth goal in the second half, effectively extinguishing any remaining hopes for Gabon.

Second round challenge awaits

With their place in the next phase secured, Mali now turns its focus to the second round, where they will face the winner of the ongoing tie between Cape Verde and Guinea.

The upcoming contest will be crucial, as a spot in the final tournament in Morocco is at stake.

Mali’s commanding performances in the qualifiers so far have demonstrated their attacking firepower and defensive solidity.

Led by captain Agueicha Diarra, the team will look to maintain its momentum as the competition intensifies.

As they await their next opponent, the Eagles Ladies will continue their preparations, knowing that tougher challenges lie ahead on their path to securing a place in the 2026 Women’s AFCON.
