Mali coach Tom Saintfiet has disclosed that midfielder Aliou Dieng turned down a tempting offer from the United Arab Emirates out of loyalty to stay at Al Ahly.

Dieng is currently in the books of the Egyptian giants, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Despite no official confirmation from both teams, Tom Saintfiet has moved to confirm Dieng’s transfer, while revealing the latter turned down a bumper offer from the UAE.

“Dieng recently received a tempting offer from the UAE with a very high salary, but he refused out of loyalty to Al-Ahly and to repay the favor to the club that was the reason for his stardom.”

“The Emirati club asked Dieng not to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations, which Dieng also refused” he said.

Dieng has made 23 appearances for the Egyptian club across all competitions this season, providing an assist in the process.

He joined Al Ahly in July 2019 on a five-year contract and has since established himself as a key member of the team. He has won several titles with the club, including the Egyptian Premier League, CAF Champions League, and CAF Super Cup.

At the international level, Dieng has represented Mali in several tournament including the Africa Cup of Nations. Since making his debut in 2016, the midfielder has made 46 appearances, scoring two goals.
