Marcel Desailly, the former French international, may soon embark on his first coaching experience. Reports from New Straits Times suggest that the 45-year-old, deeply interested in coaching, has been approached by the Malaysian Football Federation.
“I am ready to coach. I hope to instill a winning mentality in Malaysia. I have been in contact with the federation for some time,” stated the Canal+ consultant during an event to announce the nominees for the Laureus Awards in Kuala Lumpur.
Desailly, of Ghanaian descent, who envisions Ivory Coast reaching the semi-finals in the upcoming World Cup, stands a strong chance of being appointed. This comes especially after Malaysia declined the conditions proposed by Philippe Troussier, another French coach they had contacted.
Facing challenges due to match-fixing scandals, Malaysia has been without a coach since the departure of K. Rajagopal last December. Desailly’s potential appointment could herald a new chapter for Malaysian football.
