The Malawi women’s national team has made history by qualifying for the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after securing a 2-0 aggregate victory over Angola.
After holding Angola to a 0-0 draw away in Luanda, the Scorchers completed the job in front of their home fans in Lilongwe with a commanding performance.
The breakthrough came in the 82nd minute when Faith Chinzimu fired in a powerful effort from the edge of the box to give Malawi the lead.
Just two minutes later, Chinzimu struck again with a clinical first-time finish from a Wezzie Mvula cross, sparking wild celebrations in the packed stadium.
It was a defining moment for Malawian football, as the final whistle confirmed the Scorchers’ maiden appearance at the continental showpiece, marking a major step forward for women’s football in the country.
They will now prepare and hope to make an impact in their first WAFCON when they travel to Morocco for the tournament in 2026.
