Malawi Cup final: Date, venue, and kickoff time confirmed
The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has officially confirmed the details for the highly anticipated Malawi Cup final, where FCB Nyasa Big Bullets will face off against Blue Eagles FC. The decisive match is scheduled to take place on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
This announcement marks the third occasion that the Bingu National Stadium, one of the country’s most iconic football venues, will host the final of Malawi’s premier cup competition.
The stadium previously held the final in 2021, when Silver Strikers secured a 2-0 victory over Ekwendeni Hammers, and in 2023, when the Bullets triumphed over MAFCO FC with a resounding 3-0 win.
In 2022, the final was notably held at Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre, where FCB Nyasa Big Bullets claimed a 3-1 victory over their reserve team, marking the only time the final has been played outside of the Bingu National Stadium.
“We are thrilled to bring the FDH Bank Cup final back to BNS,” stated Gomezgani Zakazaka, FAM’s Director of Competitions and Communications.
“We anticipate an electrifying final that will captivate not just those in the stadium, but also the audiences watching on television and listening on the radio.
Together with our sponsors, FDH Bank PLC, we are committed to delivering an unforgettable experience for fans and creating lasting memories.”
The FDH Bank Cup has established itself as a flagship event in Malawian football, celebrated for its ability to produce thrilling matches that often feature unexpected outcomes.
Zakazaka emphasized the importance of the tournament in fostering a sense of pride and camaraderie among players and fans alike.
This year’s final is particularly significant as it features a non-league team, Blue Eagles FC, highlighting the competitive spirit and unpredictability that the cup has come to represent.
As the final approaches, anticipation is building for what promises to be a historic clash between two of Malawi’s most passionate football clubs.
FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, a team with a storied history and a loyal fanbase, will be aiming to secure yet another title, while Blue Eagles FC, the underdogs of this year’s competition, will be looking to defy the odds and claim their place in Malawian football history.
The stage is set for a thrilling conclusion to the FDH Bank Cup, and fans across the country will be eagerly awaiting the showdown at Bingu National Stadium.
Whether in the stands or following the action from afar, supporters can expect a match filled with intensity, skill, and the kind of drama that only cup football can provide.
