Makana Baku: Kocaelispor eye move for Germany-DR Congo winger from Atromitos

German-DR Congo left winger Makana Baku of Greek side Atromitos is being linked with a summer move to Turkish Süper Lig club Kocaelispor.

The 28-year-old, born in Mainz and valued at €800,000, is the subject of transfer speculation, with reports in Greece and Turkey suggesting Kocaelispor are assessing a deal ahead of the new campaign. The move is currently rated with an unspecified probability (“?”), underlining that talks, if any, are at an early stage.

Baku, who stands at 1.77m and prefers to operate off the left flank cutting in on his right foot, joined Atromitos in the Greek Super League 1 but has no publicly listed contract expiry date. That uncertainty has fuelled suggestions he could become a free agent or be available for a low-cost transfer if Atromitos choose to cash in.

The winger’s latest performances in Greece are understood to have kept scouts interested. In a recent Super League 1 fixture for Atromitos – a tight encounter which finished level – Baku featured on the left wing, offering width and pace, though he was unable to decisively affect the scoreline. His versatility in the attacking third and experience in European football remain key selling points.

Baku holds dual nationality with Germany and DR Congo, and his career has taken him through various European leagues before arriving in Athens. Now approaching what is often seen as a winger’s peak years, a move to Kocaelispor would place him in a growing Süper Lig, which has become an increasingly attractive destination for players in his market bracket.

If the transfer materialises, it could mark a pivotal step for Baku, offering him a fresh platform in Turkey to raise his profile, reassert his value and shape the next phase of his career.
