Majeed Waris Emerges as Transfer Target for RC Lens and Other Clubs
Ghanaian striker Majeed Waris is attracting interest from several clubs ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with French side RC Lens reportedly among his keen suitors.
According to France Football on July 11th, Lens has identified Waris as a priority signing. The forward, currently contracted to Spartak Moscow, impressed during a recent loan spell at Valenciennes, netting nine goals in 16 appearances despite the club’s struggles in Ligue 1.
Alongside Lens, Belgian outfit Standard Liège has shown interest in securing Waris on a loan deal with an option to buy. French Ligue 1 club Bordeaux is also reportedly vying for the striker’s signature, according to Le Parisien, which added that Spartak Moscow is seeking a transfer fee in the region of €5 million.
Waris’s qualities have not gone unnoticed by teammates either. Togolese international Matthieu Dossevi praised the Ghanaian’s impact during the previous season: “He does his job as a striker — he scores. But he also brings speed and depth, which we lacked up front. It allows us to play behind the lines, a little more in the opposing half, and to keep the ball a little more.”
Dossevi added: “He’s a dynamic player, generous in his efforts regardless of the score or the minute of play. He gives us a lot of opportunities, which is good for us. France is discovering him, but I hope he goes far.”
As the summer transfer window approaches, Waris’s next destination remains uncertain, but several clubs are keen to secure his services to boost their attacking options.
